Amelia Nuwer, DVM
Born and raised on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Dr. Nuwer’s love for animals began as a young child. She grew up in a house that was known for its plethora of pets including doves, finches, iguanas, snakes, chickens, cats, dogs, fish, a goat, aquatic frogs and a hedgehog. At the age of thirteen, she began working at a local veterinary hospital and has never stopped.
Upon graduating veterinary school, Dr. Nuwer completed a small animal rotating internship at Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital in Denver, Colorado. Although she loved the mountains and snow, fate moved her back down South, where she worked as an emergency clinician for the University of Florida Small Animal Veterinary Hospital.
“My favorite part of emergency medicine is the stabilization of critical cases and the excitement of an unpredictable day,” she says. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, gardening, painting and traveling.
