Susan M. Jones, DVM, DACVAA (Anesthesia and Analgesia)
Board Certified by the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia
Growing up in Hickory, North Carolina, Dr. Susan Jones always dreamed of becoming a veterinarian—a dream she has turned into a lifelong career as a board-certified veterinary anesthesiologist. Her academic excellence began early—she earned her college degree summa cum laude before graduating first in her class in veterinary school.
With expertise in pharmacology, physiology and pain management, Dr. Jones customizes anesthesia plans to each patient’s needs. She provides both local and general anesthesia, implements advanced monitoring techniques and promotes smooth recoveries.
Her experience spans all species – dogs and cats, horses, farm animals and zoological species, even including hands-on conservation work with cheetahs in South Africa.
Dr. Jones takes pride in being each patient’s advocate, minimizing risks and making every experience as stress-free as possible. She is dedicated to ensuring pets’ safety and comfort during procedures.
Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, yoga and exploring new restaurants.

- Published research on how using a warm, moist breathing system during anesthesia helps maintain body temperature in healthy dogs

FAMILY:
Dr. Jones is engaged to her fiancé, Peter. She loves to spend time with her parents, siblings and nieces, who live nearby.
PETS:
She adopted Wyatt, a former blood donor cat at NC State.
