This month marks the ninth anniversary of the most advanced emergency and specialty care for pets in the Charlotte region, CARE. Since 2015, CARE has been the vision of three veterinary specialists: surgeon Laura Dvorak, neurologist/neurosurgeon Amy Fauber, and cardiologist Peggy Sayer. Under the leadership of these three original partners, the practice has grown into what it is today. Accordingly, CARE now includes 32 doctors in seven specialties: Cardiology, Emergency, Internal Medicine, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Oncology, Ophthalmology and Surgery.
A Ninth Anniversary Welcome to New Partners
Because of the commitment that the founders have made to keeping CARE an independent practice and establishing a legacy for veterinary ownership, CARE has elevated two of our other outstanding veterinary specialists to partner . Specifically, these new partners, ophthalmologist Joshua Broadwater and oncologist Lark Walters, will help to guide the path of CARE as we move forward.
“Nine years into this life of the practice, we were ready to expand our vision,” said practice CEO, Peggy Sayer. “Dr. Walters and Dr. Broadwater are exceptional specialists who bring exciting perspectives to our leadership. All things considered, these new partnerships both recognize their contributions and strengthen our team .”

Joshua J. Broadwater, DVM
Dr. Joshua Broadwater has been an ophthalmologist in our practice since July of 2016. When asked about his new status, Broadwater said, “I’m excited to enter the next chapter of my career. I have always dedicated my life to helping improve vision and quality of life for animals. Now I’m thrilled also to have a chance to leave a lasting impression on a great clinic like CARE. Drs.Dvorak, Fauber and Sayer have done an amazing job building CARE into a state-of-the-art veterinary medical facility that is essential in the Charlotte community. I hope that my legacy here can be one that furthers the CARE mission by helping animals in need, attending to the happiness of the CARE staff, establishing long term relationships with the referring veterinarians in the region and continuing with my volunteer work and community outreach.”
Lark Walters, DVM
In August of 2018, Dr. Lark Walters joined CARE as an oncologist. She also is happy with this latest change. “Joining the leadership team is a natural extension of my lifelong mission to help animals in their struggles with cancer,” she said. “Being part of such a compassionate and innovative practice for the past six years has been deeply rewarding. I look forward to contributing to CARE’s bright future and working together to provide the best possible care for pets.”
As we celebrate this ninth anniversary, we reflect on the remarkable journey and growth of CARE. Indeed, our unwavering commitment to providing advanced emergency and specialty care, combined with compassionate support for pet families, remains at the core of our practice. Furthermore, with the addition of Dr. Broadwater and Dr. Walters to our leadership team, we are now primed for an exciting future. Their expertise and dedication align perfectly with our goals to enhance the health and well-being of pets we serve. As a result, we look forward to continuing our legacy of excellence, innovation and compassionate care for many years to come.
