According to Numerology, 11 is a master number that symbolizes intuition and enlightenment. CARE considers the number 11 to be quite special as well, at least this week, because it’s how old we are! Come celebrate our 11th anniversary with us!
June 22 marks the day CARE completes its eleventh rotation around the sun. Call it our birthday, call it our anniversary, we’re calling it a reason to celebrate the beginning of our second decade as an independently owned practice in Charlotte that treats pets from around the Southeast. Join us as we look at some new and exciting things that happened between our 10th birthday and now!
New Upgrades
In September 2025, Charlotte Animal Referral & Emergency added Anesthesiology to its list of services when Dr. Susan Jones joined our team. She is one of the only board-certified veterinary anesthesiologists in private practice in North Carolina. As she applies her expertise to mentor vet techs in the gold standard of anesthesiology practices, we improve our capabilities to help pets safely undergo diagnostics, treatments, and surgeries that improve their health and quality of life.
CARE welcomed another addition in September 2025 when Dr. Jonathon Daniel joined our Neurology and Neurosurgery department. The board-certified neurologist and neurosurgeon wasted no time making an impact, performing a canine neurosurgery on just his third day at CARE. He continues to do amazing things for our patients, including a fascinating case of decompressive brain surgery earlier this year.
We are so fortunate to have Drs. Jones and Daniel join our talented team of veterinary doctors!
Always Here, Always Caring
CARE prides itself on being an advanced medical center for pets that never closes. That’s why we have teams and plans in place for various emergencies, including inclement weather. We didn’t expect to call those teams up during back-to-back weekends in January, but were prepared nevertheless. It began when an ice storm hit the region on the weekend of January 23, followed by a snowstorm the weekend of January 30 (with some seeing up to nine inches of snow).
That does not happen often south of the Mason-Dixon. But it was business as usual for us as CARE rallied its troops (affectionately known as Snow Swans) to stay open and have fun doing it. Whether rain or snow, light or darkness, we are committed to our patients every day of the year.
Sharing the Knowledge
We love what we do and remain passionate about the field of veterinary medicine. That’s why CARE encourages learning for our staff and veterinary professionals throughout the community. Between June 2025 and today, CARE hosted 10 Continuing Education (CE) events, covering topics ranging from anesthetic protocols to ER radiology interpretation. We host the most CE in town, from virtual happy hours to in-person conferences, providing practical information that referring vets can apply the very next time they practice. It helps that our specialists and ER vets are enthusiastic about their fields of expertise and enjoy sharing knowledge with fellow veterinary professionals.
We do CE differently at CARE, with a focus on practical, immediately applicable learning. As a privately-owned practice, CARE partners with locally owned venues, restaurants, and other vendors because we believe in investing back into the community we serve. In addition, our doctors and technicians travel to local practices for customized lunch-and-learn sessions and hands-on training, including instruction on RECOVER CPR guidelines.
And even though it’s our 11th anniversary, our team never stops learning, either. Our doctors participate in CE events (sometimes to learn and sometimes to teach) as much as our vet techs do on-site and on the road. At CARE, CE isn’t just a perk; it’s a part of who we are.
Beyond Treatment
CARE’s commitment to innovation in veterinary medicine requires a dedication to the science and the research behind it. During the past 12 months, we have been involved in two important clinical studies at various levels.
One study, involving our Surgery team, features the evaluation of short- and long-term outcomes of surgical titanium hemoclip usage in dogs and cats. CARE is fully funding all trial costs to offer advanced abdominal CT scans and blood work free of charge. This significantly amplifies community interest and enrollment, yielding a more robust data pool with superior research results.
The other study involves our Cardiology team. Dr. Camden Rouben and cardio techs aided patients in a nationwide clinical field study to provide evidence of the effectiveness of a drug in the management of subclinical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in cats. During the past year of the study, CARE graduated 15 cats and a few let us take their picture to celebrate!
These efforts highlight how CARE invests directly in clinical research and patient relationships to continue improving our surgical results and shaping the future of veterinary health. As we celebrate our 11th anniversary, we feel particularly enthusiastic about that future.
Home Team Wins
Sometimes it’s not about celebrating what you do but who you’re around. While we care for cats and dogs that come to us from many places, our home is here in Charlotte and what a year it was to be a part of the home team! Since June of 2025, our staff and client families saw:
- Charlotte FC host the opening round of the MLS playoffs in October 2025
- The Panthers crowned NFC South Champions in January 2026
- The Hornets host their first post-season basketball game in 10+ years in April 2026
- The Checkers enter their playoff bracket for the eighth straight season in April 2026
- The Ascent kick their way into the USL Super League Final in May 2026
We aren’t taking any credit for this, just glad to be around it for our 11th anniversary. We love Charlotte and the surrounding region, and look forward to another 11+ years of providing exceptional, comprehensive medical care for your pet, at any hour.
